FullSizeRenderLego Activity

Last week I raided my kids’ LEGO and used it in lots of activities, to target lots of different skills.

I made two vehicles in different colours and called them LEGO Boulder Transporters. Next, I broke one up and left one intact to use as a model.

I created step by step instructions about constructing the vehicle using the Pictello app and added photos, text and recorded voice for each page of the story. I selected high frequency words to use in the instructions, so they would be easy to find in core based speech generating devices and apps e.g. Proloquo2Go.

Lastly, I took a screenshot of each page and printed it off so I could use it in a shared reading activity.

This activity was great for:

  • Following instructions
  • Giving instructions
  • Sharing a story
  • Making comments
  • Reading
  • Using core words

Best of all, clients were able to make a cool LEGO vehicle with a degree of independence and had a lot of fun while working on communication goals.
